DESCRIPTION:\nIn the first part of the talk I review recent ex
perimental and theoretical advances in the problem
of superconductivity in nanostructures. In the se
cond part I put forward a rigorous treatment of th
e combined effect of thermal and quantum\nfluctuat
ions in a zero-dimensional superconductor. Diverge
nces that plagued previous calculations are avoide
d by\nidentifying and treating nonperturbatively a
low-energy collective\nmode. In this way\, we obt
ain for the first time closed expressions for\nthe
partition function and the superconducting order
parameter which\ninclude both types of fluctuation
and are valid at any temperature.\nOur results pa
ve the way for a quantitative description of\nsupe
rconductivity in nanostructures at finite temperat
ure and pairing\nin hot nuclei. Finally I briefly
overview the use of AdS/CFT techniqes to describe
the physics of strongly coupled superconductors in
confined geometries. \n
