DESCRIPTION:I will describe a new notion of stability associat
ed to fibrations in algebraic geometry. The defini
tion generalises\, and is analogous to\, the notio
n of slope stability of a vector bundle. Much like
Tian-Donaldson's notion of K-stability\, there is
an associated notion of a "canonical metric"\, in
the form of an "optimal symplectic connection". O
ur main result shows that the existence of an opti
mal symplectic connection implies that the fibrati
on is semistable. There is an associated moduli pr
oblem for stable fibrations over a fixed base\, an
d I will also explain certain aspects of this. Thi
s is joint work with Lars Sektnan.
