DESCRIPTION:Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces\, and Hilber
t squares of higher-dimensional varieties\, are im
portant and basic constructions of moduli spaces o
f sheaves. As such they provide a class of interes
ting yet tractable varieties. In a joint work with
Lie Fu and Theo Raedschelders\, we explain how on
e can (re)prove results about their deformation th
eory by studying their derived categories\, via fu
lly faithful functors and Hochschild cohomology\,
which describes both classical and noncommutative
deformations.\n
