DESCRIPTION:Scalar quantum electrodynamics (scalar QED) is the
simplest examples of a gauge field theory and giv
es crucial insight into the link between gauge sym
metry and the fundamental forces. We will introduc
e the concept of a gauge symmetry and use the prin
ciple of gauge invariance to write down a toy mode
l for QED. Using this model we will develop a set
of Feynman rules\, and use them to calculate a sca
ttering amplitude. Finally\, we will discuss fermi
onic QED and non-abelian gauge theories.
