DESCRIPTION:Mirror symmetry is a mathematical discipline that
got its start from physics. \n\nT-duality\, a dual
ity from string theory\, is a way to equate IIA st
ring theory modelled on a specific Calabi-Yau 3-ma
nifold to a IIB theory modelled on a different Cal
abi-Yau 3-manifold\, known as the mirror manifold.
\n\nThis duality has been discussed in mathematic
s for the last almost 30 years and has had deep an
d wide-reaching connections. I will provide a surv
ey on the geometric interpretation of this duality
and what the current questions are in the mathema
tical community.
