DESCRIPTION:To each prime number _p_ and to each finite group
_G_ is associated a natural partitioning of the se
t of complex irreducible characters of _G_ called
the _p_-block partition. The aim of these lectures
is two-fold: firstly\, to give an introduction to
_p_-block theory\, and secondly\, to describe - a
s far as we know the answer - the _p_-block partit
ions of finite simple groups.
