DESCRIPTION:I will talk about the relation between the mapping
class groups of surfaces and the automorphism gro
ups and the superinjective simplicial maps of the
complexes of curves on surfaces for both orientabl
e and nonorientable surfaces. I will also talk abo
ut the proof that each superinjective simplicial m
ap of the complex of curves of a compact\, connect
ed\, nonorientable surface is induced by a homeomo
rphism of the surface if _g+n_ is not 4\, where _g
_ is the genus and _n_ is the number of boundary c
omponents of the surface.
