DESCRIPTION:In this presentation we give an overview of the wo
rk done at the Delft Center for Systems and Contro
l in the field of model-based predictive control f
or max-plus linear systems.\nMax-plus linear syste
ms are a class of discrete-event systems the behav
ior of which can be described by state update equa
tions that are linear in the (max\,+) algebra. We
focus on model predictive control (MPC) for such s
ystems\, where a given performance criterion is op
timized over a given prediction horizon to determi
ne the optimal control inputs. We show that - depe
nding on the type of performance criterion and con
straints - this can result in a linear programming
or a mixed linear programming problem. In additio
n\, we also present a general optimization approac
h for max-plus MPC based on optimistic optimizatio
n. Finally we discuss the use of distributed max-p
lus MPC for large-scale railway networks.\n\n\n
