DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this talk is to present a quantifie
d version of Ingham’s Tauberian theorem in which t
he rate of decay is determined by the growth at in
finity of a certain boundary function. The proof o
f this result is an extension of Ingham’s own argu
ment and\, unlike more recent proofs of similar re
sults\, involves no estimates of contour integrals
. The general result and some of its variants are
then applied in the setting of $C_0$-semigroups\,
giving both new proofs of previously known results
and\, in one important case\, a sharper result th
an was previously available. The talk is based on
joint work with R. Chill (Dresden).
