If you have a question about this talk, please contact Prof Ian Kenyon. This is an expanded version of the plenary talk on Soft and Semi-hard strong interactions from the ICHEP ’12 conference in Melbourne, Australia. The bulk of the talk will cover selected highlights in the recent development of our understanding of elastic, diffractive and total cross sections, multi-parton interactions, energy flow and other global event observables from the LHC and elsewhere. Some general remarks on the conference, where the observation of a Higgs-like particle was first announced, will also be included. This talk is part of the Particle Physics Seminars series.
