If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Dimitri M Gangardt. We study the finite temperature dynamical structure factor of a 1D Bose gas using numerical simulations of the Gross—Pitaevskii equation appropriate to a weakly interacting system. The lineshape of the phonon peaks reveals a remarkable connection to the Kardar—Parisi—Zhang universality class of dynamical critical phenomena, with a width proportional to |k|^{3/2} at low wavevectors, and a non-Lorentzian lineshape. This anomalous hydrodynamic behavior is the most significant `beyond Luttinger liquid’ effect at finite temperature. This talk is part of the Theoretical Physics Seminars series.
