If you have a question about this talk, please contact Vincent Boyer. Note unusual day In this seminar I will describe some of the work done in the Imperial College ion trapping group. I will explain some of the differences between Penning ion traps and the more common Paul / RF ion traps. I will discuss the process of shuttling ions between separate traps, for applications in quantum computing. Finally I will talk about driving a dipole-forbidden (electric-quadrupole) transition using a narrow-linewidth laser, and some of the technical considerations involved in developing this laser system. This talk is part of the Cold Atoms series. This talk is included in these lists:Note that ex-directory lists are not shown. |
