Jet Substructure Techniques and their applications at ATLAS

Many processes of interest at the LHC involve complex hadronic signals. Recent studies have shown that traditional jet algorithms are not always the optimal approach to reconstructing these signals, especially where boosted heavy objects decaying to hadrons are present. Jet substructure techniques look for more information in the internal structure of a jet. These methods are already making an impact in many areas of the ATLAS physics programme, including the search for a low mass Higgs boson.
