SARS -CoV-2 is a clear and present danger to public health, initially being identified in an outbreak in Wuhan, China in December. Since then it has swept the world, changing all aspects of life. In this talk I will give the background to SARS -CoV-2, why it is so dangerous and virulent compared to other epidemics and the technologies and steps that are underway to defeat it This talk is part of the Physics and Astronomy Colloquia series.
