If you have a question about this talk, please contact David Stops. As the global effort to detect gravitational waves progresses, a main factor limiting detector sensitivity in the crucial frequency range is the thermally induced motion of the component materials. By investigating the microscopic dissipative processes in optical materials, it may be possible to design optical components with reduced and mitigated thermal motion.
