If you have a question about this talk, please contact Rose Davies. This talk will go through the ideas of the renormalisation group approach – what issues it resolves and how to can be applied. Starting at the equilibrium critical phenomena of statistical mechanics and the block spin transformation of Kadanoff, we investigate how RG extracts the behaviour of the Ising model. Further applications will be shown, ending with phi^4 theory of QFT . This talk is part of the PIPS - Postgraduate Informal Physics Seminars series.
