If you have a question about this talk, please contact Rose Davies. Firstly, a quick derivation of the Kubo formula for linear response will be shown. This will then be used to formulate an expression for the current response to an applied EM-field in terms of Green’s functions. Through some simple relations the response can be related to the conductivity and hence the final step is to solve the integral equation for the Green’s function. This method yields the Drude result via QFT as opposed to through the Boltzmann equation. This talk is part of the PIPS - Postgraduate Informal Physics Seminars series.
