If you have a question about this talk, please contact Yu-Hung Lien. Unusual weekday and place On the 20th May 2019 the artefact-based definition of the SI kilogram will be replaced by one based upon a fixed value of a fundamental constant. In the past the Kibble balance, which was invented at NPL in the UK, has been concerned with realising the electrical units from the mechanical units. In the present it has enabled the redefinition of the kilogram and, in the future, will be used to realise the kilogram and simplify mass measurements for small masses. The talk will cover the forthcoming revision of the SI, the principles of the technique and it applications. This talk is part of the Cold atoms series.
