Polarisation-resolved spectroscopy at terahertz frequencies: methods and applications for anisotropic crystalsAdd to your list(s) Download to your calendar using vCal
If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Miguel Navarro-Cia. Optical components and spectroscopic methods remain underdeveloped at terahertz frequencies, despite the increasing interest in the light-matter interaction in this range from physicists, chemists, biologists and engineers. In this talk I will highlight some of our recent work to control the polarisation state of broadband terahertz radiation pulses, creating highly-linear terahertz radiation with a polarisation direction that can be arbitrarily rotated. I will show how this method allows the direct investigation of the optical properties of anisotropic materials. Examples of our recent work in this area include anisotropy driven by phonon modes, absorption anisotropy created by electrically-active spin waves in multiferroics, and the optical quantum Hall effect in two-dimensional hole gases.
