If you have a question about this talk, please contact David Craven. To each prime number p and to each finite group G is associated a natural partitioning of the set of complex irreducible characters of G called the p-block partition. The aim of these lectures is two-fold: firstly, to give an introduction to p-block theory, and secondly, to describe – as far as we know the answer – the p-block partitions of finite simple groups.
