Ultrasound Guided Diffuse Optical Characterization of Human Thyroid Tissue

A methodology and outcome of ultrasound guided diffuse optical assessments of human thyroid hemodynamic parameters (hemoglobin concentrations and microvascular blood flow) is presented. The procedure utilizes timer-resolved near infrared spectroscopy, diffuse correlation spectroscopy and ultrasound images of the thyroid. It is shown that knowledge of the thyroid depth improves the quantitative accuracy of recovered optical parameters.
